Mood: waiting for wind
15th October 2008
Windsurfing: Pevensey Bay
Wind Direction: WSW
Wind Stength: F4
Surf / Sea State: some swell out back
Air Temperature: ok
Sea Temperature: ok
Weather: overcast, not as windy as hoped
Max Speed:
Distance Covered:

Sneak session with VFW Mark at Pevensey Bay after doing some pre-MOT bits on my van, and some other 'odd jobs'. Rude not to check the beach, and got there just after 1pm. Tide was still fairly high, and there were some dumpers, but didn't look too bad.
Windy meter showed 8-24 knots, seemed to average 15-18 knots and looked windier further out.
Rigged the 5.8m Superfreak on the Fanatic Freewave 95, and suited up, and played guinea pig for Mark.
No wind on the inside, so time the launch and swim out clear of the worst dump, waterstart, bog for a bit, then up and away. Wind was a bit leerdammer, full of holes, but was fun when powered up. Swell was actually pretty big out the back, and got some fun jumps out there. Didn't do any wave riding, other than bearing off in a lull using the wave to keep going, as was pinching upwind mostly.
Obviously didn't do enough to convince Mark to come out and play, though he had rigged (5.75m Storm & RRD 105 Freewave) and suited up as I drifted back in to the beach. Just another couple of calls to make, then he would be out ... so off I went again, swam clear, waterstarted, and played the gusts. Quite good fun, though a bit frustrating given we'd all hoped for stronger winds and also a bit more SSW in direction.
Went back in to get Mark, or more honestly, to tell him to rig bigger!! Apparently the RRD Z-Ride 120 is a summer only board, so that was a 'no' from Mark. Instead, he sent me out on his kit for a quick spin to see if I thought there was enough for him. It had indeed filled in a bit, and the bigger board / fin seemed to make a bit of a difference too.
Took it back in to see if he'd worked up the enthusiasm, just as the wind eased off.
A little bit of pontification, check of the time, and other commitments kicked in ... time to de-rig and do one.
Bit of a teaser really, as promised much more than it delivered, but still was nice to get out for an hour or so. At least it washed all the sand off my it from the last couple of Camber outings ;-)
